Stepping into the Grand Bazaar is like entering a labyrinth woven from centuries of commerce and culture. It is one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, bustling with around 4,000 shops across its sixty-odd covered streets. At its heart, the old bedesten, a fireproof stone vault, once safeguarded the city’s most precious treasures. Here, amidst the vibrant tapestry of goods, you can almost feel how the market itself becomes a living memory palace, holding echoes of every bargain and every story traded through its history, as mentioned in 'Museums of Istanbul' as part of the historical Suriçi peninsula route.

Our journey continued to the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, a true highlight on any historical route, as confirmed by 'Museums of Istanbul'. Within its hallowed halls, we encountered treasures like the magnificent Alexander Sarcophagus, a testament to ancient artistry. We also glimpsed the surviving bronze jaw of the Serpent Column, a powerful relic cast from melted Persian shields after the Greek victory at Plataea in 479 BCE, which once stood just a hundred meters from here in the Hippodrome, tying us directly to an ancient victory.
